Two charged in Dearborn shooting death of 19-year-old

DEARBORN, MI — Dearborn police have accused two people of shooting and killing a 19-year-old Detroit man and seriously wounding another.

Timothy Paul Bennett, 34, of Inkster, and Stephen Jerome Pruitt, 46, of Detroit, are charged with first-degree homicide, assault with intent to murder, felony firearm and felon in possession of a firearm, police said.

Police said they responded to the 7900 block of Chase during the night of July 16 following reports of a shooting. When police arrived, they said they found a 19-year-old Detroit man with a fatal gunshot wound. A 31-year-old Detroit man had also been shot and was taken to a local hospital, police said.

After examining the crime scene and interviewing witnesses, detectives said they were able to determine the shooting was not a random act of violence and were able to identify and arrest the accused within 14 hours.

Bennett and Pruitt were arraigned before 19th District Court Judge Sam Salamey and are scheduled for probable cause conferences on July 31, according to police.

Police said they are also looking for two additional people who may have information pertaining to the shooting
